My husband knows the father of a young man that just left. Braden has been there since April 19. I haven't heard anything in 2 wks. Big week at the firing range. We are 3rd Bn India Co.

If he mails on a Monday, we received on a Thursday. That is a big day of the week at our house. Braden started the Crucible this morning at 2am. I hope you are all doing okay.

He's our "baby boy" - born late in life to us (already had grandchildren). We just went through Hurricane Katrina (still going through the aftermath)which decimated the entire Mississippi coast. Our recruit (Samuel) was such a help in all we had to do. We miss him so much but are so excited about the future graduation. Reading information from everybody really is encouraging.

My prayers are with you. My son had to leave 2 weeks earlier because of the storm. He will be graduating Dec. 9. We are getting ready to go see him and bring him home. Thankfully we still have our house but there is total devastation as much as 1/2 mile inland from the beach along the entire Mississippi coast. People from all over the country have been so kind, helpful, and generous. So, there is much to be thankful for. This board is one of those things - it already has been so uplifting.

My husband and I both lost a parent this year and with my son gone it was a sad day. But we have a lot to be thankful for. I always say, "it could always be worse". Did you get a call from your son? We were hoping o get a call. They do have Liberty Sunday the Sunday before graduation. He will get to call that day. I am so excited about that. I hope things are going well for you and your family. We actually talked for about 65 seconds!! Then I got my first letter the next day. How much joy can a mother's heart hold? You learn to be so thankful for the smallest things, don't we? I pray your hearts will be comforted during the holidays in spite of the loss you have suffered. Decorating for Christmas is painful this year because my recruit isn't here, and that is something he usually joined me in doing. Nevertheless, we will have a blessed holiday. We have another child at home - a 32-year-old Down Syndrone daughter, Tabitha. She lost her job because of Hurricane Katrina - the Taco Bell where she had worked for 9 years was completely blown away. But she has another job. With her enthusiasm, she will see that we celebrate Christmas in a big way.

I was just afraid to say that he did in case you didn't hear from you son. I didn't want you to be upset. Sorry. It's funny now, but when he called, I didn't recognize his voice. When I realized it was him I broke down crying. I can only imagine what I'll do on Family Day. ha-ha! It sounds like you have your share of difficulty. But we all do I suppose, just in different ways. Just when I thougt I was finished raising children, my daughter had a baby 7 yrs. ago and I'm raising her. It must have been mighty hard for you to adjust to a child with DS. You are a very strong and special person and I admire you. Posts: 41 Nov 29 05 1:05 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Shirl28, we do all have different difficulties to face but God is so good to give us the strength to face them. As for my DS daughter - I honestly would not want her any other way. She is so loving, kind, forgiving, an absolute joy. She has her job and her handicapable square dancing group has just started back after being interrupted by the hurricane. She is also part of a bowling league (bowling lanes are closed right now because of damage), swims, rides horses. In fact she has been chosen to participate in the Special Olympics National Games next summer in Iowa. My recruit interacted well with and was much liked by the handicapped friends of my daughter. When does your recruit graduate? Would like to meet you. Blessings to you. May God continue to strengthen you for the wonderful opportunity you have in training your grandchild.
