Welcome to the board.
We know you all have a lot of concerns and questions since your recruits just left for Parris Island. Please feel free to post any questions or comments and we will try to help any way we can.
In the meantime here is some general information about the beginning of boot camp:
Your recruits who arrived this week will spend their first few days in Receiving. This process gets them ready to be placed in platoons. They have a lot of paperwork to do, as well as getting clothing issued, haircuts, etc.
On THURSDAY OR FRIDAY the male recruits will take their Initial Strength Test (IST). The minimum requirements for male recruits to pass the IST are as follows:
2 Pull Ups
44 Sit Ups (2 minutes)
1.5 Mile Run - 13:30
Upon successful completion of that they will be placed in platoons in BRAVO Company and will meet their Senior Drill Instructor, Drill Instructors and company officers and staff. So it all really kicks off for them on Saturday .
Saturday through Monday of next week are called Forming. These first few days in their platoons are spent learning the very basics of how to function as recruits-- how to move from place to place, how to address Marines and Drill Instructors, what to do with their gear, etc. They have a lot of work to do in that very short time, laying a foundation that will have them ready to begin actually training THE next Tuesday , which will be Training Day 1.
