It is often thought that it is a recording from Parris Island, and many don't believe it is their recruit because it may sound robotic or "cold". This is not true. The recruits are simply reading from a script:

These footprints show them how to stand with their feet at the exact position they would need to be while at attention within a platoon. The footprints are spaced 4 across, as there are always 4 squads within a platoon.
