I got my first letter today and even though I have heard over and over again what to expect my heart is broken. My son says he wants me to find a way to get him out. He says he hasn't wanted to go all summer and that his recruiter lied to him and told him he could not get out while in DEP. I was planning on mailing a tablet, a box of envelopes and some stamps. Is this going to be a problem? I keep reading that packages can cause unwanted attention of the recruits.

First phone call - disappointment

Jake left Sunday and I waited for that first phone call, carried my phone with me everywhere I went all day. My cell phone rang at 10:55 PM-( restricted number so I assume that was him). I picked up as soon as it started ringing but it came up as a missed call. I'm so upset, mostly I don't want him thinking we weren't thinking enough of him to be waiting for his call- that we were too busy. I wrote him a letter to reassure him, but I don't have an address yet!

We would like to get a Power of Attorney naming us, as well as a Will, and a Living Will for our son - all simple. Should we do this during Family Day? Will there be a long line of families getting admin stuff done? Where should we go?

I emailed our attorney about doing all this while the kid is home on boot leave, but she said we could do it for free at the JAG's office. Hunh? We live outside DC, so we can go to the Pentagon, or Quantico, or somewhere.

Disappointment when coming home

Before my son left for bootcamp he asked his father to fix is car that was going to need over $600 in parts to pass
inspection here.The car is only worth $500 after he fixes it. We both dont fell it is worth it. Does not make sense on
keeping it does it? I'm worried about his disappointment in us, not doing what he asked us to do for him.
Reading everyones thoughts on giving a gift makes me think how disappointed he is going to be.

This time last year I was planning our trip to Parris Island. What an experience!

TAKE THAT YARD SIGN DOWN

Talk about live and learn - we ordered and displayed one of those "Proud of my rct." yard signs from Cafe Press. Well before we left for PI graduation I forgot to take it down. Needless to say our Marine was not happy to see the word "RECRUIT"! Just passing along a suggestion!

how long does it take for a package to be checked and delivered?

Does anyone know how long it takes for a package (shoe box size) to be checked and delivered and if there was something questionable, do they just remove it or does it seriously delay the delivery. the questionable item is a pair of small scissors. Like the ones you would have had in school, not the daggers you see of Friday the 13th. It arrived at PI on the 24th and as of the 26th he still hand't received it.

Transfer to Echo Co working out well

I posted on this board a few days ago that our son had been sick and missed his fourth week so was being dropped back a week and I was worried. Well, althouhg I still haven't received a letter from him, his GF did and she-said-he-said, that the guys were good, he was okay and his DI's give him a hard time but he likes it.... So.... it looks like he's back on track.

Delayed Departure and MOS

Greetings! My son was supposed to swear in yesterday. When they got there he and 10 other poolees were told there was a problem with medical paper work; it was on the MEPS side, not the kids side. His recruiter brought him home yesterday and said stay close, once the problem was fixed he was good to go and was going to be shipped. We spoke to his recruiter twice today and he said maybe tomorrow.

Any idea how long this process could possible take? He was supposed to swear in on July...

Energy Bars Question

I received a call from a Captain on Friday informing me my son had been sick and was dropping back a week. He'd been there a few days short of a month. He let me speak with my son who was so choaked up he could hardly speak. I reminded him how much we loved him and how proud we were of him--- he still could hardly talk, although he wasn't "crying".
